Established in 1982, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China's first national forest park and joined the Global Geopark Network in 2004. Across its 4,810 hectares, more than 3,000 quartz sandstone pillars rise from the valley floor — over 1,000 of them exceeding 200 meters. The "Pillar of Heaven" in Yuanjiajie inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the film Avatar. With dense forest cover and over 400 wildlife species, including macaques and giant salamanders, it is celebrated as "an enlarged bonsai, a miniature fairyland." Discover China, Tailored for You.
