Guyuan is located in southern Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. As an important post on the ancient Silk Road, it boasts a profound history and cultural heritage, especially renowned for its Buddhist grotto art.
Guyuan offers distinctive experiences: the Xumi Mountain Grottoes, first carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty over 1,500 years ago and the largest grotto complex in Ningxia; the Guyuan Museum, housing Silk Road artifacts and Persian silver coins; halal cuisine and mosques within the local Hui community; and the Ancient City Wall Relics, preserving the urban layout of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Guyuan Liupanshan Airport has flights to Xi'an. The city is also reachable by high-speed train or bus from Yinchuan. With fewer tourists than major destinations, it offers a more pristine Northwest China experience.
