Sanya is located at the southern tip of Hainan Island. As China's only tropical coastal city, it is known as the 'Hawaii of the East.' With warm weather year-round, it is especially popular during winter months.
Sanya features world-class beaches including Yalong Bay (known as the 'No.1 Bay under Heaven' with powdery sand), Dadonghai (the earliest developed bay with abundant water activities), and Haitang Bay (home to luxury resorts). Water sports range from diving at Wuzhizhou Island to surfing at Houhai Village and sailing. Tropical rainforests such as the Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone and Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park offer exotic plants and waterfalls. Western restaurants and international cuisines are widely available, and English services at some resorts make communication relatively easy.
Sanya Phoenix International Airport has direct flights to many domestic and international cities. Prices are higher during peak season (December–February), so advance booking is recommended.
